How Does 121digital Work ?
Courses are FREE to all participating non-corporate training centres.
FUNDING :
* Sponsorship is sought from any organisation which or anybody who wishes to support 121digital as a local community building initiative. All patrons will be acknowledged without reference to the value of their contribution.
* Corporates wishing to participate in the program, by inviting their staff to volunteer to tutor on their own in-house 121digital course(s), are requested to pay a fee.
121digital provides the program FREE OF CHARGE to schools, universities and IT colleges for the benefit of their students, the local community ... and, of course, to accommodate more Learners. The program has doubled in Learner numbers each year since 2010.
Each 121digital course (content prepared by professionals) is tailored to the individual needs of each Learner – Each Learner chooses their topics. Tutors (employee/student) work, one-to-one, with them. Learners are invited to bring their laptop, tablet and/or smartphone to a local training centre (participating company/secondary school/university/library, etc.) for tuition, by an employee/a transition year student/undergraduate who shares their digital skills under the guidance of volunteer Facilitators. Courses comprise approximately 8 hours of tuition during 4, 5 or 6 lessons, one lesson per week. Learners are encouraged to practice between lessons – to reinforce their learning. Certificates of course completion are awarded to Learners (and to Tutors).... and lessons are FREE.
UNIQUE :
During the last lesson(s) each Learner is invited to share a skill(s)/life experience or some of their wisdom with their Tutor - in the same 'one-to-one' format. So, the tables are turned and each volunteer Tutor now becomes the Learner, completing the 121digital tag line ... 'teach & learn across the generations' ...
2,000 learners have completed 121digital courses since 2010, in more than 70 training centres including companies, schools, universities, community centres and other training centres.
These learners were taught by 2,000 Tutors who volunteered to share their digital skills.
